Mobile Bay is a large bay and estuary on the Gulf of Mexico located in the southern part of the US state of Alabama. It is bounded by the eastern shore of Mobile County, Alabama, to the west and the western shore of Baldwin County, Alabama, to the east.
The bay is approximately 413 square miles (1,100 km2) and is fed by several rivers, including the Alabama, the Mobile, the Tensaw, the Spanish, and the Escatawpa. The bay is relatively shallow, with an average depth of around 10 feet (3 meters).
The bay has a rich history and is a hub for commercial and recreational fishing, boating, and water sports. The Mobile Bay area is also known for its diverse wildlife, including a large number of migratory birds, fish, and marine mammals.
The city of Mobile, the center of the Mobile Metropolitan Area, is located on the eastern shore of the bay. Major communities along the western shore of the bay include Bayou La Batre, Theodore, Dauphin Island, and Grand Bay.
