R.E. "Bob" Woodruff Lake
Alabama
About this destination
R.E. "Bob" Woodruff Lake is a man-made reservoir located on the Chattahoochee River between Alabama and Georgia. The lake was created by the construction of the George W. Andrews Lock and Dam in 1963 and was named in honor of R.E. "Bob" Woodruff, the former president of the Columbus (Georgia) Power Company who played a significant role in the construction of the dam.
The lake has a surface area of approximately 45,000 acres and is a popular destination for fishing, boating, and other water-based activities. The lake is home to a wide variety of fish, including largemouth bass, crappie, catfish, and striped bass.
The Corps of Engineers manages the lake and maintains a number of recreational facilities, including campgrounds, picnic areas, and boat ramps. The lake also provides a source of drinking water for communities in the area, and the dam serves to control flooding on the Chattahoochee River.
