About this destination
William "Bill" Dannelly Reservoir is a man-made lake located in southeastern Alabama along the Alabama River. The reservoir was created by the construction of the Millers Ferry Lock and Dam in 1974, which impounded the waters of the Alabama River to create the lake.
The reservoir is named after William Dannelly, a prominent Alabama attorney, and lawmaker who served in the Alabama House of Representatives from 1959 to 1966. Dannelly was a strong advocate for developing the water resources of Alabama, particularly in the southeastern part of the state.
Today, William Dannelly Reservoir is a popular destination for boating, fishing, and camping. The lake is home to a variety of fish species, including largemouth bass, catfish, and crappie. There are several campgrounds located around the lake that offer camping, RV sites, and cabins for rent. The lake also has several boat ramps and marinas for boaters
