About this destination
Yates Lake is a 1,980-acre reservoir located in east central Alabama, near the cities of Tallassee and Dadeville. It was created in 1926 by the construction of the Reeltown Dam on the Tallapoosa River. The lake is named after the Yates family, who were one of the original settlers in the area.
Yates Lake is a popular destination for fishing, boating, and water sports. The lake is home to a variety of fish species, including largemouth bass, spotted bass, bluegill, crappie, and catfish.
There are several public access points around the lake, including boat ramps, fishing piers, and picnic areas. The lake also has several campgrounds and RV parks, making it a popular spot for overnight stays.
In addition to its recreational activities, Yates Lake is an important source of drinking water for nearby communities. The lake is managed by the Alabama Power Company, which maintains water levels and controls water flow through the dam.
