Arizona
About this destination
Theodore Roosevelt Lake is a large reservoir located in the Tonto National Forest in central Arizona, about 80 miles east of Phoenix. It was created in 1911 by the construction of the Theodore Roosevelt Dam on the Salt River, which is one of the major water sources for the Phoenix metropolitan area.
The lake is surrounded by rugged mountains and desert landscapes, providing a unique recreational opportunity for visitors. Fishing, boating, swimming, water skiing, and camping are all popular activities at Theodore Roosevelt Lake. The lake is also a popular spot for birdwatching, with over 280 species of birds found in the surrounding area.
Theodore Roosevelt Lake is named after the 26th president of the United States, who was instrumental in the construction of the dam and the creation of the lake. The lake is one of the largest bodies of water in Arizona, with a surface area of over 22,000 acres and a maximum depth of 357 feet.
