California
About this destination
Lake Berryessa is a large, man-made reservoir located in Napa County, California. It was created by the Monticello Dam, which spans the Vaca Mountains and blocks the flow of Putah Creek. The lake has a surface area of 20,000 acres (8,100 hectares) and is approximately 15.5 miles (24.9 kilometers) long. It is a popular destination for outdoor recreational activities, including fishing, boating, kayaking, and swimming. The lake is also home to several campgrounds and hiking trails. Lake Berryessa is known for its distinctive "Glory Hole" spillway, which operates when the lake is at full capacity, and spills excess water into Putah Creek.
