Shenipsit Lake is a reservoir located in Tolland County, Connecticut. It is part of the Shenipsit State Forest and is managed by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. The lake was created in 1926 by the construction of the Shenipsit Dam on the Shenipsit River. It covers an area of approximately 4.5 square miles and has a maximum depth of 46 feet.
The lake provides a variety of recreational opportunities including fishing, boating, hiking, and picnicking. It is stocked with trout and bass and also has species such as pickerel, catfish, and sunfish. The lake is surrounded by forested hillsides, providing scenic views and opportunities for hiking on several nearby trails.
The Shenipsit Lake Association is a volunteer organization that works to preserve and protect the lake and its surroundings. The association sponsors events such as clean-up days and educational programs for local schools and residents. The lake is also an important source of drinking water for the town of Ellington.
