Lake Apopka
Florida
About this destination
Lake Apopka is the fourth-largest lake in Florida with a surface area of 30,000 acres. It is located in Orange and Lake Counties in Central Florida, about 15 miles northwest of Orlando. The lake was once one of the state's premier bass fishing destinations, but due to years of pollution from agricultural runoff, it became severely degraded and lost much of its aquatic vegetation and fish populations. However, in recent years, significant restoration efforts have been made to improve water quality and restore the lake's ecosystem. Today, Lake Apopka offers a variety of recreational opportunities, including birdwatching, hiking, and fishing.
