About this destination
Lake Strom Thurmond is a large man-made lake located in Georgia and South Carolina. It was created by the damming of the Savannah River in the early 1950s, and is now one of the largest lakes in the Southeastern United States. With over 1,200 miles of shoreline, the lake is a popular destination for boating, fishing, and camping. The lake is named after Strom Thurmond, a former Governor of South Carolina and long-serving US Senator.
