About this destination

Richard B. Russell Lake is a man-made reservoir located in the state of Georgia in the southeastern United States. It is located in Elbert County, near the border with South Carolina. The lake covers an area of about 26,000 acres and has a shoreline of over 500 miles. Richard B. Russell Lake was created in the 1980s as part of a project to control flooding on the Savannah River. The land around the lake is home to a variety of wildlife, including deer, wild turkeys, and bald eagles. The lake is also a popular destination for birdwatchers, who come to observe the many species of waterfowl and other birds that inhabit the area. Richard B. Russell Lake is managed by the US Army Corps of Engineers and is open year-round. Visitors can enjoy a range of activities on the lake, including swimming, water skiing, and kayaking. There are also several campgrounds and picnic areas located around the lake.
