Newton Lake is a man-made lake located in Jasper County, Illinois. It covers an area of approximately 1,682 acres and has a maximum depth of 29 feet. The lake was created in the 1970s by damming the Embarras River. It is known for its excellent fishing opportunities, with largemouth bass, crappie, and catfish being the most commonly caught species. The lake also has several public boat ramps and a marina for recreational boating and water sports. Newton Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area encompasses much of the lake and provides access to hiking trails, picnic areas, and other outdoor recreational opportunities.
