About this destination

El Dorado Lake is a 8,000-acre lake located in Butler County, Kansas, about 30 miles east of Wichita. It was created by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a flood control project on the Walnut River, and was completed in 1981. The lake provides opportunities for boating, fishing, camping, hiking, and hunting. It has multiple campgrounds, including two group campgrounds and one equestrian campground. There are also several picnic areas, two swimming beaches, and multiple trails for hiking and biking. The lake is a popular fishing spot for crappie, largemouth bass, channel catfish, walleye, and bluegill. There is a marina offering boat rentals, as well as a boat ramp for private boats.
