Lake Coldwater is a reservoir located in Comanche County, Kansas, United States. It was created in 1935 by damming the Coldwater Creek, a tributary of the Cimarron River. The lake covers an area of 270 acres and has a maximum depth of 50 feet.
Lake Coldwater is a popular destination for fishing, boating, and camping. The lake is stocked with a variety of fish species, including largemouth bass, crappie, catfish, and bluegill. The lake is also home to a variety of bird species, making it a popular spot for birdwatching.
The lake has two campgrounds, one on the north side and one on the south side. Both campgrounds have RV and tent camping spots, as well as an array of amenities, including showers and restrooms. There are also picnic areas and playgrounds at both campgrounds.
In addition to outdoor recreation, Lake Coldwater also has historical significance. During the Great Depression, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) built the lake and surrounding facilities as part of their efforts to provide employment and improve the nation's infrastructure. Many of the original CCC buildings still stand and are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
