About this destination
Lake Beshear is a 760-acre reservoir located in Caldwell County and Hopkins County in Western Kentucky. The lake is owned and operated by the Commonwealth of Kentucky and is managed by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. It was created in 1961 by damming the Little River, a tributary of the Cumberland River.
Lake Beshear is a popular destination for fishing, boating, and camping. The lake is stocked with a variety of fish species, including largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, and catfish. There are two boat ramps and a marina on the lake, as well as several campgrounds and picnic areas.
In addition to recreational activities, Lake Beshear provides drinking water for the city of Dawson Springs and surrounding areas. The lake is part of the Little River Watershed, which includes several other lakes and reservoirs in western Kentucky and Tennessee. The watershed is an important source of water for both municipal and agricultural use in the region.
