About this destination
Rocky Gorge Reservoir is a man-made lake located in Howard County and Montgomery County, Maryland. It was created in the early 1950s by the construction of the T. Howard Duckett Dam on the Patuxent River. The reservoir covers an area of 778 acres and has a maximum depth of 131 feet.
Rocky Gorge Reservoir is a popular destination for fishing, boating, and hiking. The reservoir is stocked with a variety of fish, including largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and catfish. Boats are allowed on the reservoir, but they must be carried down to the water's edge as there is no boat ramp. Additionally, there are several hiking trails around the reservoir, including the 8.5-mile Rocky Gorge Trail.
The area around Rocky Gorge Reservoir is also home to a number of other recreational opportunities. The Patuxent River State Park is nearby, as is the Savage Park and the historic town of Laurel.
