Maranacook Lake is a freshwater lake located in the town of Winthrop, Maine, in Kennebec County. The lake covers an area of about 1,673 acres and has a maximum depth of 120 feet. The lake is primarily used for recreational activities such as boating, fishing, swimming, water skiing, and kayaking.
Maranacook Lake offers a diverse fishery, including species such as largemouth and smallmouth bass, brown trout, brook trout, landlocked salmon, and northern pike. The lake is also home to several bird species, including loons, bald eagles, ospreys, and great blue herons.
There are several public access points to the lake, including a boat ramp at the southern end of the lake off Route 135 and a state-owned launch on the eastern shore. The lake hosts several annual events, such as the Winthrop Lakes Region Ice Fishing Derby and the Maranacook Lake Triathlon.
