About this destination

Sanford Lake is a man-made reservoir located in Midland County, Michigan. It was created in 1925 by the construction of the Sanford Dam on the Tittabawassee River. The lake has a surface area of approximately 1,350 acres and a maximum depth of 30 feet. It is a popular destination for boating, fishing, and swimming, and is surrounded by several parks and recreational areas. In May 2020, the Sanford Dam failed due to heavy rainfall, causing the lake to drain and flood the surrounding areas. The dam was subsequently removed and plans are in place to rebuild it in the future.
