Sardis Lake is a reservoir located in northwestern Mississippi, United States, approximately 40 miles south of Memphis, Tennessee. The lake was created by the construction of the Sardis Dam on the Tallahatchie River, which began in 1939 and was completed in 1947.
The lake covers a surface area of 32,000 acres, with a maximum depth of 90 feet and an average depth of 35 feet. It is a popular destination for fishing, boating, camping, and hiking. The lake is stocked with several species of fish, including crappie, bass, catfish, and bream.
The Sardis Lake Marina and Campground offers boat rentals, fishing supplies, and camping facilities. Additionally, there are several recreation areas and hiking trails around the lake, including Hurricane Landing and John W. Kyle State Park.
The lake provides drinking water to several nearby communities, including Batesville, Mississippi. It is also used for flood control and hydroelectric power generation.
