Lake Tappan is a reservoir located in northeastern New Jersey, primarily in the town of River Vale with a small portion extending into Old Tappan. The lake was created in the late 1960s by the United Water company to serve as a freshwater supply for parts of Bergen County. It has a surface area of approximately 1.6 square miles and a maximum depth of 59 feet. The lake is a popular spot for recreational activities such as fishing, boating, and hiking along its scenic trails. It also serves as a habitat for various fish and wildlife species, including largemouth bass, crappie, and waterfowl.
