About this destination
Lake Colden is a glacial lake located in the Adirondack Mountains in New York State. It lies at an elevation of 2,750 feet (840 meters) in the heart of the High Peaks region, surrounded by beautiful mountains and pristine wilderness. The lake is fed by the Opalescent River and a number of small streams, and it drains into the Opalescent River as well. Lake Colden is a popular destination for hikers and campers who come to enjoy the rugged beauty of the Adirondacks. The lake is also a popular spot for fishing, boating, and swimming, although the water can be quite cold even in the summer months. Visitors to Lake Colden can access the lake via a number of hiking trails, including the popular Marcy Dam Trail and the Lake Colden Trail. There are several campsites and lean-tos around the lake where hikers can spend the night, and the Adirondack Mountain Club maintains a lodge on the shore of the lake.
