Owasco Lake is located in central New York State in Cayuga County. It is one of the eleven Finger Lakes and is approximately 11 miles long, one mile wide, and 177 feet deep. The lake is surrounded by rolling hills, farmland, and small communities.
The lake offers a variety of recreational activities such as fishing, boating, swimming, and hiking. It is also a popular destination for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts. The Owasco Flats Wildlife Management Area, located at the southern end of the lake, provides habitat for a variety of waterfowl, songbirds, and other wildlife.
Owasco Lake serves as a source of drinking water for over 50,000 people in the surrounding communities. The Owasco Lake Watershed Management Council works to protect and improve the health of the lake and its surrounding watershed. This includes efforts to reduce pollutants and protect the lake from harmful algal blooms.
