It was created in the 1940s as part of a flood control and water conservation project undertaken by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. The lake sits at an elevation of 1,860 feet and has a maximum depth of 30 feet. It is a popular destination for swimming, fishing, boating, and hiking in the surrounding Ricketts Glen State Park. The park boasts several waterfalls and scenic hiking trails along Kitchen Creek. The lake is open for fishing year-round and is well-stocked with bass, panfish, and trout.
