Lake Wylie is a man-made lake located in York County, South Carolina and Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. It is approximately 13,400 acres in size and has over 325 miles of shoreline. The lake was created in 1904 by the Catawba Power Company and is fed by the Catawba River. It is named after Dr. W. Gil Wylie, a prominent physician and leader in the early development of Charlotte, NC.
