About this destination
Cherokee Reservoir is a large freshwater lake located in northeastern Tennessee. It was created in the 1940s by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) as part of a series of hydroelectric and flood control projects in the region. The reservoir covers over 30,000 acres and has over 400 miles of shoreline. It is a popular destination for fishing, boating, and other water sports, as well as camping and hiking. The reservoir is home to a variety of fish species, including bass, crappie, and catfish. There are several marinas and boat ramps located around the lake, as well as a number of parks and campgrounds. The Cherokee Lake Dam, which controls the water level of the reservoir, is located on the Holston River.
