About this destination
Fort Loudoun Lake is a man-made reservoir located in eastern Tennessee, United States. It was formed by the damming of the Tennessee River at Knoxville, Tennessee, and stretches for 55 miles (88 km) across five counties. The lake was created in 1943 by the Tennessee Valley Authority to provide hydroelectric power and to help control flooding in the area. It is named after a British colonial fort that was built on its shores in 1756. Today, the lake is a popular recreation destination for boating, fishing, swimming, and other water sports, and is home to a variety of fish species, including bass, crappie, and catfish.
