About this destination

Great Falls Lake is a reservoir located in Middle Tennessee on the Caney Fork River. It was created by the Great Falls Dam, which was constructed in the 1910s to provide hydroelectricity to the region. The lake covers approximately 1,860 acres and has a maximum depth of 50 feet. It is popular with anglers for its large population of bass, crappie, walleye, and catfish. The lake also provides opportunities for boating, swimming, and camping at the Great Falls Campground. In addition to outdoor recreation, the area around Great Falls Lake is also rich in history. The nearby town of Rock Island was once a hub of the early Tennessee iron industry, and visitors can explore the ruins of old mills and furnaces. The Rock Island State Park also offers hiking trails, scenic overlooks, and waterfalls.
