Texas
About this destination
Lake Conroe is a 21,000-acre lake located in Montgomery County, Texas, approximately an hour north of Houston. It was created in 1973 by the San Jacinto River Authority to provide a source of water for the city of Houston.
The lake offers a variety of recreational activities such as boating, fishing, swimming, water skiing, and jet skiing. There are also several marinas, restaurants, and resorts located along the lake's shoreline.
Fishermen can catch a variety of fish in Lake Conroe, including largemouth bass, catfish, crappie, and hybrid stripers. The lake is known for its blue catfish, which can weigh over 50 pounds.
Lake Conroe State Park is located on the lake's northwest side and offers camping, hiking, and fishing opportunities. The park also has picnic areas, a beach, and a playground.
The lake has experienced some issues with invasive species, including zebra mussels and giant salvinia, which can damage the ecosystem and impact recreational activities. Efforts are being made to control and prevent the spread of these invasive species.
