About this destination

Proctor Lake is a man-made lake located in Comanche County and Erath County, Texas, United States. It was created in 1963 by the construction of Proctor Dam on the Leon River. The lake covers 4,537 acres and has a maximum depth of 75 feet. It is a popular destination for fishing, camping, boating, and swimming. The lake is home to a variety of fish species, including largemouth and smallmouth bass, catfish, crappie, and sunfish. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department regularly stocks the lake with fish to ensure good fishing opportunities for anglers. There are several campgrounds and recreational areas around the lake, including Copperas Creek Park, Sowell Creek Park, and Promontory Park. These parks offer a variety of amenities, such as campsites, picnic areas, boat ramps, playgrounds, and hiking trails. Proctor Lake also hosts several annual events, such as the Proctor LakeFest, a music festival held in June, and the Proctor Classic, a fishing tournament held in August.
