Virginia
About this destination
Hungry Mother Lake is a 108-acre impoundment located in Marion, Virginia. It was formed in the 1930s by the creation of a dam on Hungry Mother Creek, which was named after a Native American legend about a mother and her child who were lost in the area and died of starvation. The lake is surrounded by the Hungry Mother State Park, which offers camping, hiking, swimming, and fishing opportunities. Some of the fish species found in the lake include largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and catfish.
