Stonecoal Lake is a reservoir located in Upshur County, West Virginia. It was created in 1975 by the Stonewall Jackson Dam, which impounds the waters of the West Fork River. The lake covers an area of 550 acres and has a maximum depth of 30 feet.
Stonecoal Lake is a popular destination for fishing, boating, and hiking. The lake is stocked with various species of fish, including trout, bass, catfish, and bluegill. There are several boat launches around the lake, as well as a swimming area and picnic shelters.
There are also several hiking trails in the area, including the Stonecoal Lake Trail, which is a 1.6-mile loop that offers scenic views of the lake. The lake is surrounded by the Stonewall Jackson Wildlife Management Area, which provides opportunities for hunting and wildlife viewing.
