It is situated about 20 miles west of the city of Cheyenne and is a popular destination for fishing, boating, and camping. The lake is approximately 912 acres in size and has a maximum depth of 28 feet. It is stocked with a variety of fish including rainbow trout, brown trout, and kokanee salmon. The surrounding area is home to a number of wildlife species including elk, deer, and moose. The lake is surrounded by the Medicine Bow National Forest, which offers hiking, hunting, and other outdoor recreational opportunities.
