About this destination
Pathfinder Reservoir is a man-made lake located in Natrona County, Wyoming. It was created in 1909 by the construction of Pathfinder Dam on the North Platte River. The reservoir has a capacity of 1,015,700 acre-feet and a surface area of 22,000 acres when full.
Pathfinder Reservoir is a popular recreation area for fishing, boating, camping, and picnicking. The reservoir is well-known for its trout fishing, and anglers can catch brown, rainbow, and cutthroat trout, as well as walleye, perch, and catfish.
The reservoir is also a key part of the North Platte Project, a system of dams, reservoirs, and canals that provides irrigation water to farmers and ranchers in Wyoming and Nebraska. The Pathfinder Dam and Reservoir were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.
