Lake Thunderbird is a reservoir located in central Oklahoma, United States. It covers approximately 6,070 acres (24.6 km²) and has a shoreline of 86 miles (138 km). The lake was constructed in 1965 by the Oklahoma City government for municipal water supply and recreational use. The lake is named after the state bird, the scissor-tailed flycatcher, which is also known as the thunderbird. The lake is popular for fishing, boating, camping, hiking, and nature watching. The lake's fish population includes catfish, bass, crappie, and sunfish. The park around the lake has several campgrounds, picnic areas, and hiking and biking trails for visitors to enjoy.
